” Generation Doof” is the incredible truth about today’s generation. The authors Anne Weiss and Stefan Bonner who count themselves to the so called “Generation Dumb”, show us in their novel in an easy-going and humorous way which huge lacks in general education, manners, family, relationships etc etc are part of German people at the age of 16 to 45 years. There are for example trying to explain the reasons why we spend almost all our leisure time in front of the computer or TV, why we show only little interest for current political and economic occassions, why we educate our children with Nintendo DS and Internet, why we are afraid of marriages and much much more.

Because of their amazing success, they recently started a show on stage refering to exactly the topics out of the book.
If you are interested in the show and if you even might have already read the book, you have the chance to get tickets online.
What do I think about the book:
I just finished reading it last night(@Jule: Thanks for borrowing!:-) and I have to admit that I have never read such kind of book. Honestly I do not count myself to the “Generation Doof”, well at least not totally. The book opened my eyes considering huge wholes in my general knowledge which are not necessary and perfectly could be filled; it includes helpful tips and tricks how you have a chance to avoid typical mistakes with fatale effects. And because houndreds of studies, statistics and surveys have been taken into consideration I could gain a lot of interesting and even fascinating information.
I was just curios and had a look what youtube would offer me if I insert “generation doof” and i got following results:
short summary and personal experience with “Generation Dumb”
Interview with the authors- Leipziger Buchmesse
(unfortunately it’s in German, because the authors are from Germany)

Hey there,
I totally agree with you.
I love, love, love this book.
The idea behind it isn’t that orginal but it’s the first time a book is written about it. Of course, there are extreme examples of people of the “Generation Dumb” but in some points I even had to admit to myself that I show some appalling character traits of that generation. It definitely made me rethink. Drastically.
Did you know that there’s even a follow-up book. In my opinion it’s even better than the first.
I can highly recommend it.
Greetings,

Hi,
thank you very much for your comment! i haven’t known that there was a follow-up book, i should have a look for it. In a way we can be happy not to show all these typical features which are sometimes exaggerated, but still I think it is frightening how deep our generation has already fallen. Maybe it is even our responsibility to change something- let’s see what we can do with as IBMANs:-)
