What are we going to play?

First, you will enjoy Johannes Brahms wonderful fourth symphony played by 90 enthusiastic and highly motivated students from different universities in Berlin. The second half Carl Orffs “Carmina Burana” will be performed, in cooperation with our choir and our partner choir from the Ukraine. I am convinced that this is going to be an amazing event and I would be more than happy if you want to join.

you wanna know what I chose? I have to admit I haven’t read the book and I had no clue what the whole story is about, but actually I did like it although they could have done it less obvious….

first one was that my best friend celebrated her removal party (@Annemarie: It was such a nice party, thank you very much for this wonderful night with all of you!) and secondly we had a flight over Dresden with the socalled “Rosinenbomber”, an old military plane from the second world war. It was supposed to be a simply fantastic fly over one of the most beautiful cities of Germany, you know I love flying so much!

But thanks to the brilliant wheather, the flight has been cancelled, too much wind,too many clouds, too much rain. Anyway, in order not to spend the whole long weekend on the little village called “Dorf Wehlen” we decided to spent some time in Prague, which is only a 2 hours drive from Dresden, thanks to the new Autobahn from Dresden to Prague.

So we arrived there on Saturday afternoon, first we checked in to our hostel(Levirhostel, found it at hostelclub.com- nice, cheap&clean!) and immediately started our first walk through the pretty czeque capital.What you really have to watch out in Prague are burglers and moneyexchange offices- they cheat on you as much as possible- take care!!!

First points of attraction were the “Henry’s Bell Tower”, the “Powder Tower”, the Tyn Chruch and the astronomical clock. Later on we took a walk through the Jewish quarter and the largest time square of Praha in front of the National Museum. Unfortunately it was raining the whole day, especially at the later evening,and, I still want to cry about it, for some reason my camera broke:-( So on Sunday I could not take photos anymore which is a horror for me- being a tourist and not taking pictures, that is like pizza without toppings… Anyway we visited the National Theater, the Charles Brigde (the most famous bridge of Praha), and of course the “Hradcany” which is a huge castle on the hill very close to the center. After 7 hours of “Touristing” we dicided it would be enough of the day and drove back to Dorf Wehlen and had a nice evening chilling and relaxing on the couch. But all in all it was an amazing trip and I do not regret it.

1. You roughly should know the easter story. Jesus Christ was judged to death because he ought be a traitor and the king of the Jewish which obviously was a big crime at this point of time (the reasons and process of Jesus’ death is such a long story, if you want to any details, please feel free to ask me or simply grab a bible and have look). To cut a long story short, he was crucified on Good Friday and died a horrible and incredible death. He was buried in a cave.

2. Three days later (on Easter Sunday), some women wanted to see his corpse to clean and anoint him, but they could not find him. He was revived from the death (the reason for that might have been the will of God but even bishops and some other religion’s detractors are not hundred percent sure of it)

3. Jesus was said by god to stay on earth for a short period of time. I think he wanted to make all his friends and followers clear, that he is still alive and that there is no reason to lose trust in him, he would be still with them and he will always be.

4. 40 days later he had to leave the earthly life and was taken to heaven, Jesus Christ’s ascension. For us it is called the “ascension day” what annually takes place on a thursday. I am not quite sure why exactly on this day we have to celebrate father’s day and why all men get drunk, but this is probably out of my business.

5. And another hoilday is following. Exactly 10 days after Jeses went to heaven, the holy spirit was sent on earth to convince people that Jesus is not dead but revived and to protect them (the christian faith consists of three units: God, his son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit- the so called Holy Trinity).

Hardly anyone knows the religious background about holidays and why we actually celebrate them.  But even if you do not believe in God and even do not belong to any religion at all, I think it is still interesting and worth knowing it why you actually have all these wonderful free days to relax:-)

Because of their amazing success, they recently started a show on stage refering to exactly the topics out of the book.

What do I think about the book:

I just finished reading it last night(@Jule: Thanks for borrowing!:-) and I have to admit that I have never read such kind of book. Honestly I do not count myself to the “Generation Doof”, well at least not totally. The book opened my eyes considering huge wholes in my general knowledge which are not necessary and perfectly could be filled; it includes helpful tips and tricks how you have a chance to avoid typical mistakes with fatale effects. And because  houndreds of studies, statistics and surveys have been taken into consideration I could gain a lot of interesting and even fascinating information.

I was just curios and had a look what youtube would offer me if I insert “generation doof” and i got following results:

On sunday I took the time to go to the cinema and watch one of the most famous and most spectacular movies of today’s cinema life: Slumdog Millionaire.

“The story of how impoverished Indian teen Jamal Malik became a contestant on the Hindi version of “Who Wants to be A Millionaire?” — an endeavor made without prize money in mind, rather, an effort to prove his love for his friend Latika, who is an ardent fan of the show.” (cinema.com)

I have to admit that I had doubts whether this would be a weak Bollywood film because I had heard different kinds of reputations, the ones liked it a lot, the others thought “Just another love story, don’t be bothered watching it”.

What would you have done after seeing the trailer? Run to the cinema or stay at home and watch your favourite TV show?

Well, thank you very much, it was not another Bollywood movie (except the last couple of minutes), and even if it shows pretty obviously living conditions of the poor in India, I am not convinced to award it 8 oscars and I do not need to see it necessarily again in the next couple of months.

As you all know, last Friday was a holiday meaning 3 days off in a row! But what can you do with all your time? I thought about different possibilities and is a election of my results:

1. You stay in bed all day. You only leave it in to grab some food. You watch movies, soap operas etc  “d’arrache- pied”(the only word I can remember from last French lesson meaning without a break)
2. Party, party, Party, Dancing, Clubbing….1.might partly be included.
3. You are a good guy and spend the time with your family. Your grandparents, sibling, parents, aunts, uncles … will be more than happy about your visit.
4. You use the time preparing presentations, writing blogs, learning, working through articles and books- all that stuff you never have actually time for.
5. See your friends; cinema, just hanging out
6. Let’ s get crackin’ and do a mountain tour- that’s what I did!

So what has actually happened:

On Thursday after Uni, I took a ride to Munich by a so called “Mitfahrgelegenheit”(the driver was the president of ProReli, interesting isn’t it?). Next morning, it took us about an hour to get to the Alpes, to be precise to the Bavarian foothills of the Alpes. So we packed all our stuff we needed for the trip and walked to our accommondation called “Albert Link Hütte” where we checked in for 2 nights and immediately went on our first tour. The next two days we did tours about 7 to 8 hours and climbed on several peaks like Brecherspitz, Taubenstein, Rotwand, Schwarzenkopf.

On Sunday night I got home at 2 a.m., but it was absolutely worth it.

So last Friday, one of theses special occasions happened again. At 8 p.m. we met in the Russian restaurant “Bravo” near Bundesplatz in Wilmersdorf. After having a quite nice dinner with fish, meat and Bortsch(typical Russian soup), we had one or even two Wodka and started singing songs like “Nikoloscha” or the Russian birthday song composed by the little monster “Tschiburaschka”. I enjoyed very much that night and I am really looking forward to the next one. I would love you to join me on these little parties, even if you do not have had any contact with Russia or Russian language before; Wodka might help- trust me on that^^
